| In case the Virginian Pilot did not print my response, I wanted to make sure you received this. Again, thank you ALL for making this a better place. Thanks again and God Bless you and your family. Laurie and Cliff. Here it is !!! It saddens me to read so many negative comments. I moved here in 2005. I was born and raised in Ghent and lived in the Churchland area prior to moving here. This was to be a temporary home but we liked the people so much we decided to make it permanent. Everyone we came in contact with seemed warm and friendly and seemed to love this area. It appeared to be a community in itself and I truly thought people were proud to say they live in Ocean View but I guess I was mistaken. It never occurred to me there was so much hate for their fellow citizens who it appears only made this place better. I guess it should go back to the way it was with the high crime and drugs. It’s sad that they donate their time, money and effort to their home town and all over Hampton Roads for people who only complain about what they have done wrong and not what they did right. These people have worked hard their whole life for everything they have in addition to raising a family and having to endure a devastating illness among other things I am sure just as most families go through. I don’t see what the problem is. Just last Sunday a raft with one or two people on it was stranded out in the Bay after a bad storm. It was drifting further out as I watched. I was looking for the police boats and Coast Guard to come to their rescue when all of a sudden I saw OV pier boat (Judith Ann) come to the rescue. They stopped doing what they were doing at the restaurant to help these people. They wasted their gas, time and effort to go several miles from Willoughby all the way towards Little Creek to help these people and got to them before the coast guard did. How many would have said “Oh, someone will help them” and never make an effort to lift a finger? I personally would like to thank the Boone’s for all they have done here. I think it is refreshing to know there are people out there wanting to make a better place for us to live in. We have enough to complain about – let’s be thankful for what we have. |

| Dear Ms. Boone I just wanted to take a moment to let you know how much I greatly appreciated all the hard work and energy that Jeff Bennett put into making my purchase of a new home possible. From the very beginning, he was extremely responsive to my requests for listings within the very narrow range that I had for locations, size and price range. I know how challenging it has to be as clients narrow their search to such a small pool of options, but Jeff was very helpful and actually helped me step outside the small bubble I was looking at, to see some other options. As it turned out, the house I bought was outside of my original bubble, so I am extremely grateful that he was able to help me see those options. The whole process of buying a house, especially a short sale, is an overwhelming experience. Thankfully I had Jeff in my corner to help me navigate through the process ad to help keep my motivated when there were time I was about to go crazy. He is not only very professional, but he is also very down to earth and was able to explain some of the processes to me in a way that I could understand. His help and guidance was paramount in getting me through this process from beginning to end. With some of the issues that came up for me with the mortgage company, I would have been lost without his help. He was dedicated to not just merely closing on the house, but to making sure that the house I got was one that I could feel confident and comfortable with. I am truly pleased with my new house, ad will be forever grateful to Jeff for helping me get not just a house, but a home. Thank you, Michelle Jones |

As you know, part of the post-closing process involves a questionnaire that we send out to clients in order to get some feedback from them regarding their experience in general, the agent’s performance etc. I am proud to say that we have recently received two absolutely glowing examples from two separate clients that worked with Pat Yeiser and Lisa Martin (questionnaires below). The event was put on to celebrate the sixth year since the Norfolk Real Estate Ambassadors program began. We met on June 12, 2010 at Attucks Theatre on Church St. in Downtown Norfolk. One of the speakers that day, Shirley Confino-Rehder cid, affil, aia with The Rehder Group gave a presentation about a housing option I had never heard of. It\\'s called Co-Housing. Co-Housing has been around for decades, There was a fifteen year study done on this way of living. The study provided some shocking results. Cardiac mortality for men 55-64 was almost zero. There was no crime, the need for public assistance was zero, and all households were multi-generational. The conclusion of the study was apparent. As people, we are nourished by other people, we influence the health and longevity of each other, we do better when we have support from others, and we know that isolation causes us to be stressed, and that stress can affect our mental health, and body functions. There have been multiple studies on Co-Housing over the years, all with the similar results. A Co-Housing community is designed and built to provide both social interaction, and individual space, with focus on health and safety. The homes have modern amenities, are built “green”, and are sold fee simple. Meaning you own your home, unlike a co-op or condo where you may hold interest in a percentage of the property. Common areas belong to the community, and it is up to the residents to maintain them. These communities are culturally and economically diverse. All decisions are made by concensus, and income is not to be made within the community. Today there are more than 90 Co-Housing communities in the U.S. not counting the many existing communities that are converting to Co-Housing. Co-Housing is something I had never heard of. I am interested in doing some more research myself. It might be something that would be beneficial to Norfolk. There is a Co-Housing website that has detailed information on this housing option. You can find it at www.cohousing.org. Resources: cohousing.org Co-Housing An Option in Housing, by Shirley Confino-Rehder. Autumn Savage Delete this blog? February 07, 2011 I LIKE UNCLE PETE DECKER'S MUG AT THE AIRPORT-BY JUDY BOONE I love the mermaids on the carpet, thank you Bess Decker! We have one of the prettiest airports around. When I stepped off the plane after my liver transplant at Mayo Clinic in 2007, I saw the carpet and thought of the Deckers. I had gotten down to 87 pounds with a feeding tube hanging from my nose when I received a perfect match made in heaven, a child donor gave me the gift of life. And many times I have been back and forth to Jacksonville on Southwest, since then, for my check ups. When I see Uncle Pete's coffee, which some of the profit goes to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, I think...How many families of children who are despartely sick go in and out of this airport to Memphis to St Jude that are looking for that little ray of hope. They can thank Peter Decker, Jr, "Uncle Pete" for helping to make that trip happen for the child and desparate parents. I was lucky, Mayo is alot like St Jude, it gave me hope. I wonder to myself every time I go through that airport that Pete had been on the board and helped change it to what it is now. I wonder just how lucky the parents and children feel when they step off that plane and have cause to celebrate being home and alive and well, or better. Seeing Uncle Pete's mug and his mug makes me smile. What a man! I had been involved with the Southeastern Virginia Board of St Jude since 2000 when Peter asked me to help him bring the St Jude Dream Home here to Hampton Roads. I was just a volunteer and I volunteered my builder husband to build the first Dream Home in Pinewell by the Bay. Helping Peter to keep Danny Thomas' dream alive, "No child should die in the dawn of life!" I helped him raise millions over the years to save children's lives and it turned out to be a child that saved mine. And the uncanny thing is, the transplant surgeon at Mayo, Dr Christopher Hughes, was the son of a research scientist who invented an anti-rejection drug, Bactrium, a sulfur cure in 1960 and sat on the board with Danny Thomas in 1962. Danny Thomas built the office in Mempshis, because Dr Hughes refused to leave Memphis. Danny built the hospital in Dr Hughes hometown. Dr Hughes picture hangs on the wall across from the front desk where every child is received, not Danny's picture. What a small world! I do believe we are all connected! Miracles do happen! Thank you, Uncle Pete, for all that you do for Norfolk and Hampton Roads. Your coffee is my only cup of choice because every sip helps save children's lives! All my love, Judy Boone |
